#TRAINERROAD SOFTWARE FREE#
That would likely require me to get a TP subscription, but I currently don't pay for one, just have the free version.Hot on the heels of our new sync integration with Suunto devices last month, we are absolutely thrilled to announce we're bringing the same experience to TrainerRoad™ users. I like TR, they've added >60 watts to my FTP in just over a year & I'm hoping to enter the big boy watt club at some point in the next couple years with them, although if I start to significantly plateau (hasn't happened so far) I will consider the services of an individual coach. I also sometimes swap TR workouts for Zwift races if the anticipated work zones & duration are somewhat similar (Zwift races are usually a large sweetspot or FTP interval with short attacks scattered within).ĭon't touch Zwift's workout plans, they're not worth the paper they're printed on (at least when I last looked at them, 1 year ago). So I use both at the same time, TR on my phone on my handlebars for the workout (controlling my Kickr Core usually in erg mode) & Zwift on my computer screen in front of me for the distraction. Although I'm able to do a TR workout on the trainer and do nothing but watch the line, TR themselves say that this is not the intention of the app & you're supposed to supplement your own entertainment they're only there to make you faster. Largest gains were on Sufferfest, but as that was earlier on in training I don't think I can objectively compare things. I might give Zwift and Sufferfest another try if TrainerRoad gets boring over the winter. Some combination of Sufferfest entertainment, TrainerRoad app/site quality, TrainingPeaks run/swim tri structure and Xert analytics and Garmin support would be nice. Don't care for the analytics with intervals.icu and Runalyze, and the advanced stuff means paying for WKO. Probably will try this if I feel TR run/swim workouts ran their course. I need to try TrainingPeaks but the double hit of needing to buy specific plans (as opposed to fiddling with TR plan builder and trying all variations to see what I can work into my schedule) and getting premium (to reschedule) has turned me off for now. Sweet Spot base training is meh, as are basing workouts on FTP (tests) only, about the only downsides.
#TRAINERROAD SOFTWARE ANDROID#
TrainerRoad has reasonable tri plans, easy to (re)schedule things, the Android app is great (except you can't see run/swim workouts, wtf guys) and in general just works. Xert is interesting, excellent Garmin support, but no tri support, interacts weirdly with Strava and the Android app is meh.
#TRAINERROAD SOFTWARE WINDOWS#
Sufferfest was great, but no Android support and the Windows app was very clunky and slow (Electron crap I think) and difficult to reschedule things etc, and no outdoor workouts. Might be usable if you already know what you're doing. I've used Zwift, Sufferfest, TrainerRoad and Xert. I have fond memories of dying on a trainer to the same footage and soundtrack for 45-60min back in the day. Sufferfest, as mentioned before, has seen loads of changes since being a paid for video/workout service. I get the appeal and think they’re doing seriously awesome things, even if it’s not my bag.

The idea of virtual racing was Super novel at first and I loved it, but It wasn’t going to be the thing that made me faster, so I left once pricing came in. I used Zwift when it was a free Beta and it definitely blew my mind for a bit. (Being in app/product design myself, but in a Fortune 500 company, I envy their ability to stay lean and focused and put out meaningful features, but that’s another story.) Seriously, there are few companies out there who I believe have such a grounded take on their mission and who genuinely try as hard to keep the pulse on their user base, if not give back to their users. Throw in what I’ve seen/heard/read TrainerRoad evolve to since way back when I started, and it’s a “take my money” scenario. With a young family and my wife’s weekly night schedule two times a week, most of my riding/training is trainer bound. Bonus (and this is big): indoor training works for my life-like, a lot. TR is both my “coach” and my platform, and what i use to entertain me in between is my call, which i prefer. It’s paid dividends from where I was when i started this crazy hobby. Since 2016, I’ve forked over a yearly subscription to TR. For TrainerRoad, things were quite different then.
#TRAINERROAD SOFTWARE SOFTWARE#
TrainerRoad was the first software I discovered back in.2010? 2011? I only subscribed monthly in the winter because the idea of riding indoors was alien unless it was too damn cold and/or snow was on the ground.
